BOSTWICK, Fla. – A small plane went down in the woods near a landfill, injuring two people, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.
The Sheriff's Office was notified at 5:04 p.m. Saturday of the plane crash, which occurred west of U.S. 17 near the landfill, according to the Florida Highway Patrol's report.
Deputies said the two people on board were reported alert and conscious but suffered from back injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the man and woman were taken to Orange Park Medical Center Trauma Center with minor injuries.
They are identified as Phillip Bailey, 68, and Dianne Bailey, 69, both from Ponte Vedra Beach.
Troopers said the pilot and passenger were able to advise first responders that their aircraft unexpectedly lost power.
The National Transportation Safety Board will take over the investigation from the Florida Highway Patrol.
