The incident unfolded near Saint Clair Evans Academy on Moncrief Road near West 45th Street shortly after 11 a.m., according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Lt. Travis Cox said the shooting was first reported by an officer assigned to the school. When additional officers arrived on campus, they learned that some of the shots hit the building.

No students or staff were hurt and the school was immediately placed on lockdown, Cox said. The lockdown wasn't lifted until police gave the all-clear about 1:15 p.m.

The lieutenant said investigators have detained two people, but no arrests have been made. Police were questioning other individuals about what they recall happening.

Third graders had just wrapped up a round of standardized tests when shots rang out and one of their classroom windows shattered, Principial Lawanda Polydore said.

Polydore said students had finished their exams, so the incident is unlikely to have any impact on their test scores. Things are expected to return to normal on Thursday.
