Shootout on Westside street between two groups stuns neighbors

Police looking for vehicle involved in shooting as bullets leave mark

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Several people got out of two cars parked on Edgefield Drive near Park Street on the Westside around 7 p.m. Saturday and started shooting at each, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. By the time the gunfire stopped, at least 40 rounds were exchanged.

Neighbor Alicia Ellis witnessed the shootout as her 2-year-old son sat in the front yard eating ice cream. She said she heard the shooting go on for two minutes.

"We had just been outside with the kids getting ice cream from the ice cream truck. I had gotten all the kids inside but my baby was still sitting on the steps of my front yard," Ellis said. "The one car parked right by my house. I saw the driver get out of the car. He looked back down the road where the other vehicle was, he looked back down at this vehicle, looked at me, then got back into his vehicle and took off." 

One person they believe was involved in the shooting went to the hospital with a gunshot wound. Two people at the hospital were taken into custody.

At least one house was hit with bullets but no bystanders were shot.

Alex Crawford’s truck was hit six times by the bullets. Crawford said he was about to go cut the grass in his front yard when he heard gunfire.

"I looked out the door and I saw somebody running around the corner," Crawford said.

Police are now looking for a black Dodge SUV, possibly a Durango.
