Deadly triple shooting marks Jacksonville's 100th homicide in 2019

Surveillance video shows van leaving area around time of shooting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man died and another man and a woman were taken to a hospital after a triple shooting Thursday on Jacksonville's Eastside.

The man's death was Jacksonville's 100th homicide this year.

Investigators said a man and woman showed up to a hospital about 5:45 p.m. and both required treatment for gunshot wounds.

Shortly after, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, investigators were sent to Clark Street, just east of Main Street North, where they found a man dead from a gunshot wound.

There was no description of the shooter. As detectives continued to investigate on Friday, News4Jax has learned they are reviewing surveillance video of a white van with black writing on the side leaving the area around the time of the shooting. The driver can barely be seen in the video and it appears no one is in the passenger seat.

No description found

By News4Jax records, the deadly shooting was Jacksonville's 100th reported homicide in 2019.

"That is a startling, sobering fact for sure," Jacksonville resident Amanda Chang said.

The sad reality is Jacksonville has seen more than 100 homicides for eight straight years.

"It doesn’t surprise me. Depending on what part of town you’re in, even here in Five Points, there is violence," Jacksonville resident Aielene Kearns said.

If the city continues to see a killing just about every other day for the rest of this year, Jacksonville could exceed its homicide totals of 140 in 2006 and 152 in 2007.

“It’s definitely concerning and scary," Jacksonville resident Shane Dooling said. "You don’t want to let your kids go out at night like they used to.”
