20-year-old Brunswick man dead after shooting while with friends

Police: 21-year old man arrested in deadly shooting

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – A young man turned himself in Saturday to police who were investigating the death of  20-year-old man who was fatally shot Friday night after what the victim's grandmother described as a fight over a girl.

Police said Ronrecus Goodwin, 21, was charged with aggravated assault and murder in the death of Cameron Johnson. The Brunswick man was found unresponsive and suffering from at least one gunshot wound on Friday night.

The Brunswick Police Department said the shooting happened about 10:30 p.m. on Ellis Street Lane between P and O streets.

The whole thing happened right outside Johnson's cousin's house.

Brien Garner said he heard the gunshots from his home and came running downstairs where he found Johnson lying on the ground wounded just before police arrived to investigate.

Johnson was taken to Southeast Georgia Health Systems, where he died.

"It was Friday the 13th. So I just had a bad feeling, and I came down and saw my little cousin was laying out right there,"  Garner said.

Garner called his cousin a sweet young man with his life ahead of him, and had a message for the gunman.

"This senseless violence needs to stop. You need to stop shooting people. You need to stop hurting people over nothing," Garner said.

Brunswick police said the case is still under investigation and anyone with information about this case is encouraged to contact Det. Daniel Merritt at 912-279-2624 or Silent Witness at 912-267-5516.
