ORLANDO, Fla.

A whiskered baby walrus has become the first walrus born at SeaWorld Orlando.

The 14-year-old female walrus, Kaboodle, gave birth to the unnamed walrus June 3. Kaboodle’s calf is the first baby walrus born at SeaWorld Orlando.

Walruses are not listed as endangered species, but are still in danger from global warming, dwindling sea ice and some illegal hunting. SeaWorld Orlando cares for orphaned walrus calves with the permission of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

To ensure that Kaboodle and her calf bond, SeaWorld husbandry teams are monitoring the walruses under 24-hour care.
