YULEE, Fla. – The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies took part Tuesday in an active shooter training drill at Yulee High School.
The school has about 1,200 students and sits right next to Yulee Middle School.

The drill involved a scenario where an active shooter was on campus targeting students.
Observers from the School Board watched, along with the State Attorney.
Deputies could be seen running toward the school, ready to engage the "shooter." The goal was to evaluate how they responded and discuss any necessary adjustments to their game plan afterward.
Last week, the Fernandina Beach Police Department also held an active shooter exercise at Fernandina Beach High School. That agency used actors in the halls to make it as real as possible.
Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper said all county agencies must practice and learn how to respond the best way possible to an attack.
"Unfortunately, it’s the norm now. We have to be prepared now for any situation, and the things going around our country and the state of Florida. It can happen anywhere," Leeper said. "If you aren’t prepared, you’re going to lose a lot of lives as a result of that."
The exercise was monitored by representatives from Emergency Response Educators and Consultants.
They are going to sit in with the Sheriff’s Office and go over what was good about the response and what needs to change.
