ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A fire broke out early Monday in the back room of the Dollar General Store on Marabell Parkway, off State Road 16, damaging merchandise and causing smoke damage throughout the store, according to St. Johns County Fire-Rescue.
Heavy flames were seen from the building when they arrived. Firefighters battled thick smoke and worked for to keep the fire from spreading to other businesses.

Racks of burning merchandise were brought outside and hosed down. It took two hours to evacuate all the smoke from the building.
No one was in the building at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
