Georgia’s current state of emergency for Hurricane Helene lasts through Oct. 9 after Gov. Brian Kemp extended his executive order on Tuesday.
Kemp also signed an executive order on Tuesday that, starting at midnight Thursday and throughout the state of emergency, Georgia’s gas tax has been suspended.

Kemp’s order said he was suspending the tax in part “to ensure continuation of the necessary storm response and recovery efforts.”
Helene tore far inland through Georgia, the Carolinas and more of the Southeast after initial landfall on Florida’s Gulf Coast. The storm caused catastrophic damage across the Southeast and killed at least 166 people.
