Brunswick 4-year-old left unattended in vehicle fatally shoots himself with unsecured gun: police

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – A 4-year-old died Wednesday night in a shooting incident in Brunswick, Georgia, according to the Glynn County Police Department.

The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. outside a home on Habersham Street. Police said the child was left unattended in a vehicle with an unsecured handgun, leading to the boy accidentally shooting himself in the head.

The child was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he died.

GCPD arrested the boyfriend of the child’s mother, 25-year-old Joshua Codogan. He was charged with second-degree murder and tampering with evidence.

Police did not provide information on how Codogan was related to the incident.
