BRUNSWICK, Ga. Flotilla 10-10 of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is teaming up with Brunswick Landing Marina for an important training exercise.

The drill will be conducted using expired aerial and hand-held flares at the marina on Jan. 21, 2025, starting around 11 a.m.

This drill has a couple of key goals. First, it’s a great training opportunity for participants. Second, it helps dispose of expired flares in an environmentally friendly way, keeping them out of hazardous waste landfills and our waterways.

If you happen to see distress signals in the sky that day, don’t be alarmed. It’s all part of the planned exercise.

Some of these flares might be visible from quite a distance, so it’s possible that people driving by might report seeing them.

The organizers are working hard to inform first responders about the drill, but just in case anyone is missed, consider this a heads-up about the upcoming activity.
