Police: SUV hits pedestrian in Kingsland

KINGSLAND, Ga. – A man police believe had been drinking was hit by an SUV while crossing Georgia Highway 40 Sunday night, according to the Kingsland Police Department.

Dustin Stephens, 28, was found lying in the roadway when officers arrived and was taken to UF Health Jacksonville with significant injuries, police said. Stephens had been walking across the highway to get back to his hotel when he was hit by a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer that was traveling eastbound.

The driver of the Blazer was questioned by police and evaluated at the scene. The driver, whose name has not been released, was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs and is currently not facing charges, police said.
