FLORIDA – Florida became the 27th state on March 3, 1845. There are older milestones -- Florida became was "discovered" by Juan Ponce de León in 1513, St. Augustine was founded in 1565 and Florida became a territory of the United States in 1822 -- but the state turned 172 on Friday.
We don't know if it's because of the Fountain of Youth in St. Augustine, but she looks good for her age.
