A 2018 constitutional amendment passed by Florida voters set a Dec. 31, 2020, deadline for ending greyhound racing at pari-mutuel facilities, though tracks started halting racing ahead of the deadline.
Orange Park had been the only remaining track in Northeast Florida to race greyhounds, which it had been doing for more than 50 years.
Nearly 70% of the 7.8 million voters in the 2018 election approved the amendment.
People can adopt and foster retired racing greyhounds by visiting Greyhounds as Pets of Northeast Florida.
