JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Many families are struggling this holiday season, including one Jacksonville family’s home, which was gutted by a fire.
Tierra Washington and her three sons suffered a huge life setback on Dec. 5 when their home was destroyed.
At the time, her 9-year-old son was in Orlando, playing in a tournament for the Duval Jags -- a youth football team. The family waited until after the tournament to tell him what happened.
Now, the law firm Farah and Farah is working together to help make their holiday a little brighter.
“It’s that time of year, especially with the virus,” said attorney Eddie Farah. “Everybody is dealing with something.”
The firm wanted to make Washington and her sons’ “life a little better” by holding office fundraisers.
“We wanted to present you with something that will help out for, just for the holidays, and hope we help you get over this,” attorney Chuck Farah told Williams.
The money will be used to help her buy Christmas presents for her sons.
“It makes me feel good, because good people are out here in the world,” Williams said. “Somebody cares and I’m not in it alone trying to fix everything all on my own.”
“Mrs. Washington was a client of ours, and in a weird way when clients come in, retain us and ask us for help, it’s almost like a relationship develops,” said Chuck Farah. “It’s a connection that lawyers get with their clients and when they are in need, we like to step up.”
The law office is planning to hold a larger fundraiser for the family in January.
Washington and her boys are staying with her sister for now, until they can find a place of their own.
A GoFundMe account has also been created to help the family.
