JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place on Kings Park Drive Saturday evening, according to JSO Chief T.K. Waters.
The shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. when officers were patrolling Kings Park Drive. One officer saw the subject of a felony battery arrest warrant.
The officer approached the suspect, identified as Tyrone Frazier, 24, but he fled on foot. He ran through a couple of buildings in a local apartment complex. JSO said the officer told him to stop, threatened to use his taser, but he kept running.
Officials said Frazier fired two shots at the officer, who took cover and wasn’t hurt. The officer kept chasing him into another apartment.
Then, JSO said the officer fired at Frazier twice, shooting him once. They said Frazier is at the hospital in stable condition. News4Jax is told it doesn’t appear to be life-threatening.
JSO said the arrest warrant was from a felony battery that occurred in February. They said Frazier was known to be in the area.
The officer is on administrative leave while JSO investigates.
The state attorney’s office is conducting an independent investigation.
