Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run crash on Southside Boulevard, FHP says

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The body of a pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run crash in Jacksonville was found Monday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said the crash happened sometime during the overnight hours on Southside Boulevard near Perimeter Park Boulevard.

According to a FHP news release, a vehicle was traveling in the right lane of southbound Southside Boulevard as a pedestrian was walking south on the right shoulder of the roadway. The Highway Patrol said the vehicle then went off the roadway and into the grass shoulder, fatally striking the pedestrian.

The body of the pedestrian, who was described as a 33-year-old man, was found Monday morning by passing motorists, troopers said.

“I arrived and nobody was there, and then about 8:30, our office started noticing police cars,” said Kelly Bello, who works at the Keller Williams Realty office nearby.

FHP said the vehicle involved was a 2001 to 2005 Honda Civic that is missing the right side mirror, has right front damage to headlight assembly, and has damage to the right front and right side consistent with a collision involving a person.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to dial *FHP (*347) or call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS (8477).
