JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A day after an unidentified stench blanketed Jacksonville and surrounding areas early Wednesday morning, there was still no word on the source of the odor.

City air quality inspectors contacted and visited a number of industrial facilities, but none said they’d had any incidents that might have caused a chemical release.

The city of Jacksonville said it received 30 complaints Wednesday morning. A map shows the ZIP code locations where the complaints came from, but there were complaints in Clay and St. Johns County, as well, and lots of calls to the newsroom.

Some callers said it smelled like rotten eggs. Others said it was like burning cabbage.
