A person was shot Wednesday in Palm Valley at a construction site, and another person is being sought, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said they know each other.
The shooting was reported near the intersection of Palm Lane and Dixon Place. Construction workers were seen rendering aid to the man who had been shot.
Gena Beaver, who lives in the area, says she was driving up and heard three shots.
“When I looked to my right, I saw a man hump and hit the ground hard,” she said. “Later I found out a bullet ricocheted off his machinery. He was running for his life.”
Then, she said, an armed man walked right past her car.
“He looked very mad,” Beaver said.
A construction worker, who asked not to be identified, said there was an argument between two people that led to the shooting.
“I’ve lived here my whole life and there’s never been a shooting,” Beaver said. “We live on a simple dirt road, so it’s very weird.”
The construction worker told News4JAX that his coworker’s injuries were not life-threatening and that he was released from the hospital.
