Jacksonville police: 1 critically injured, 1 in custody in Lake Forest shooting

2 young adults had dispute prior to shooting, JSO says

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A young adult was hospitalized in critical condition and another young adult was taken into custody after a shooting Friday afternoon in the Lake Forest neighborhood, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Police said they responded about 12:40 p.m. to Brandywine Street, where they found a young adult who had been shot. He was taken to UF Health Jacksonville, where he was listed in critical condition at last check, police said.

Officers said they have another young adult in custody. That person identified himself as the shooter and lives at the address where the shooting happened, police said.

Investigators said that both men live on the same street and that they had a dispute prior to the shooting. According to police, the shooter said the other man had attempted to rob him.

The stepfather of the person shot said his stepson, who is 22 years old, was struck at least four times by gunfire.

The mother of the accused shooter, who she said is also 22, said she came home, saw police going in and out her front door and wondered what happened. She said her son and his girlfriend were both taken into custody and driven to JSO headquarters for questioning.

In the meantime, a neighbor, who asked not to be identified, said this incident has put her family on edge.

“It’s scary,” the neighbor said. “When I pulled up and saw it was roped off, I was praying.”
