JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 3-year-old was among three people who were wounded in a shooting Wednesday afternoon in Northwest Jacksonville, and police are working to track down the shooter, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.
According to Chief Romano, with the Sheriff’s Office, police were called to the scene on Soutel Drive and Ribault Avenue at approximately 4:24 p.m. He said officers located two adults who had been shot, along with the child, who was in the back seat.
All three were taken to a hospital for treatment. Romano said their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
“It appears this is not a random act. That vehicle was, in fact, targeted,” Romano said.
Romano said investigators determined their vehicle was stopped at the intersection when another vehicle pulled up, and multiple gunshots were fired at the victims’ vehicle. The suspect vehicle, believed to be a sedan, fled the area.
“I heard the gunshots,” said a neighbor, who asked not to be identified. “And I was in the bed, so, I just rolled over and I fell on the floor because I didn’t know where it was coming from.”
Anyone with information was urged to contact authorities.
