Investigators said Gee admitted to being an accomplice to the robbery that led to the shooting death of Amber Gaddis, 30. He told prosecutors that he was dating Gaddis’ daughter, and at one time lived with them. He claimed that he tried to protect Gaddis during the robbery and that he was guilt-ridden over her death.

Jacksonville police said a woman, identified by family and friends as 30-year-old Amber Gaddis, was found dead Saturday morning at a neighbor's home. (Special to WJXT)

He gave the name of a person to investigators that he claimed was the shooter, but no one else has been charged in the murder. The defense also raised mental health concerns that resulted from childhood abuse.

Gee’s attorneys have appealed the sentence.
