It was quite the sight. Some -- landing on vehicles that were sitting in traffic, including this brand new Jeep Grand Wagoneer.
Others -- went after this Sprinter van.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, there were four crashes in the area of the Buckman on Wednesday afternoon, which led to backups. Troopers said the bees were being transported by a truck that was on the highway, stuck in traffic.
What you might be surprised to learn is, apparently, bees are transported in open-air trucks. Because the traffic was so slow moving, the bees took off and began congregating on surrounding vehicles. Fumes from idling vehicles might have also played a role.
Yikes.
