JACKSONVILLE, Fla – A man riding a dirt bike was killed on Soutel Dr. Sunday evening, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
The report says, the man on the dirt bike was riding eastbound on Soutel Dr. around 8:20 p.m. when a car driving westbound on Soutel attempted to turn south onto Dostie Dr. S. and hit the dirt bike.
The crash caused the dirt bike to hit another vehicle that was waiting to turn onto Soutel from Dostie, throwing the man off of the bike, police say.
According to JSO, the man was taken to the hospital in life-threatening condition where he later died.
The report says the gentleman on the dirt bike was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and the bike was not street legal. Police also said they don’t believe alcohol was involved.
This incident marks the 68th traffic fatality in Duval County this year and the 17th involving a motorcycle.
