JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Foul play is suspected in the death of a person on Wednesday at a Northwest Jacksonville apartment, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, an unresponsive male was found around 11 a.m. Wednesday inside an apartment on Kings Park Drive off Kings Road, and he died at the scene.

Detectives described his death as suspicious. Police said they responded to the apartment after family members came over because they had not been able to get in contact with him.

Investigators said they were searching for potential witnesses, as well as interviewing people downtown. They said they were also working to identify the person who died.

The Sky 4 helicopter flew over the apartment complex Wednesday afternoon, and several police cruisers could be seen in the area.

The Sheriff’s Office originally reported the incident as a “person stabbed.” When asked about that at the scene, Sgt. E. Cayenne, with the JSO Homicide Unit, said the cause of death would be determined once the body is transported to the medical examiner’s office, but he did disclose that “there was trauma to the body.”

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact JSO at 904-630-0500 or jsocrimetips@jaxsheriff.org. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS (8477).
