JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman is dead after a single-vehicle crash Friday morning involving a utility pole in the Lakeshore neighborhood on the Westside, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.
An SUV was heading north around 6:20 a.m. on a paved area that runs parallel to the Roosevelt Boulevard overpass of Lakeside Drive when, for unknown reasons, the SUV struck a concrete utility pole, according to JSO.

The driver and the passenger were taken to UF Health downtown, where the passenger died, police said. The driver reportedly suffered minor injuries.
“It is unclear if the victim died from the crash, or from other reasons,” JSO said.
JSO also said that drivers are allowed to drive on the paved area and that there were no known witnesses.
