JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A report from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says St. Johns Storage on St. Johns Bluff Road has been burglarized several times over the past few months.
Adina Monroe, who has had a unit at the facility, says thousands of dollars worth of her property was stolen. On Monday, she said she was getting her things out.
“It was all the way full to the top and everything’s gone,” Monroe said.
The unit contained personal belongings, including jewelry, furniture and a service weapon. She got the unit to store items while her home is being renovated.
“They took all the good stuff,” Monroe said. “They had time to go through each and every bag that was in here.”
She learned her things were taken Monday, when she saw her lock was gone. She took a video that she shared with News4JAX of when she confronted a manager the same day. News4JAX has chosen not to reveal his identity, but he told police and Monroe that two women were inside her unit Friday.
“They were putting the lock on the unit. I assumed you sent them out here to put a lock on it,” the manager says.
“And you didn’t call the police, right?” Monroe says.
“I called them last night,” the manager replies.
“So you didn’t call them when the women was in my unit?” Monroe asks.
“No, because there was no reason to call them. None. There was no reason to call them because they were not doing anything that I could see was illegal. But if they were breaking in or taking stuff out of the unit then, definitely, I would’ve called the police on them,” the manager explains.
Monroe said she doesn’t know who the women could be, and the manager couldn’t give her or the police a description of them. He said he was checking the units like he always does, but didn’t see anything suspicious.
News4JAX attempted to speak with the manager Wednesday, but he couldn’t comment.
“It’s too much for somebody to come in and take everything from you,” Monroe said. “It’s way too much.”
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said that from Friday to Monday, it’s had three burglary calls to the business. Monroe said she’s considering taking legal action.
On the video she shared with us, she said the manager claimed he tried to get in touch with her and even wrote a letter. She also said JSO tried to reach her, but she didn’t have any missed calls.
The manager told JSO he does a nightly security check at the storage facility. News4JAX spotted security cameras on site, but Monroe said that Monday one camera was broken and another was pointing upward.
