Man killed in early morning shooting in Atlantic Beach: JSO

Sources tell News4JAX the man was in his late teens

ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. – A young man was found shot outside a home early Sunday morning in Atlantic Beach, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

The man was rushed to the hospital where he died from his injuries, JSO said.

Atlantic Beach Police Officers responded to the scene after receiving a call about a shooting around 4:45 a.m. Sunday morning, according to JSO.

A black car was seen being towed away from the scene.

JSO said it doesn’t know why the man was shot but it happened in front of several people and have not released the relevance of the black car.

News4JAX spoke with someone who did not want to appear on camera but knows the victim well. News4JAX is not releasing either of their names or how they know each other due to circumstances in the investigation.

“Love him to death even though he is not family. It is obviously a lot of love to be able to call someone who is not your family, family,” he said. “I just had my baby boy, so he just recently held my baby boy the other day. We think of him as an uncle for my son. For something like this to happen to somebody who is so young and actually really good at what they did, it sucks.”

He said the victim recently turned 18 years old.

“He had a lot of stuff going on for him. He is a rapper himself and he just dropped a couple of music videos and just went on kind of like a tour,” he said.

There is currently no information on a possible suspect, but JSO is questioning neighbors this morning who may have more information.

Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at 904-630-0500 or First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS (8477) to remain anonymous.
