Pedestrian, 37, hit and killed in Baker County, FHP says

A 37-year-old man from Macclenny was hit and killed Tuesday night in Baker County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The Baker County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a call on County Road 139 in the Margareta area around 11:30 p.m.

FHP said the 37-year-old man was standing in the southbound lane of County Road 139 when he was hit by a pickup truck.

The pedestrian died at the scene.

The 48-year-old driver of the pickup truck fled the scene but then returned during the investigation, escorted by a family member, troopers said. The truck was found at a home close to the scene.

The driver, who is from Glen St. Mary, was not injured, troopers said.

Charges are pending for the driver, according to the report.
