News4JAX viewers on Thursday shared numerous photos of trees that were knocked down in Northeast Florida as Ian rolled its way across the state.
Some landed on power lines, and some on houses.
One massive tree went through the roof of a home in the Girvin neighborhood — right into the kitchen.
“It was a thump, and the whole tree came crashing down,” said resident Douglas McIntosh. “We were not expecting anything like this, and there it came. Bang.”
The homeowner says he’s grateful it didn’t land on him or his son.
Take a look at this photos sent in from viewer David Posey in the Arlington / Fort Caroline area.
Trees also toppled into the streets, and blocked traffic for quite some time.
This was the scene at SnapJAX viewer Laura Ratzlaff’s home in Doctors Lake, where along the waterline are extremely old and beautiful trees, weighing hundreds of pounds.
And take a look at the toppled tree from a different angle and you can just how close the tree came to falling on this person’s house. Laura said she is extremely thankful and blessed that the tree didn’t fall on her bedroom, which is in the rear of her home, right next to the tree.
This image came to us from Downtown Jacksonville, captured by photojournalist Ciara Earrey. Believe it or not, there is a vehicle underneath the fallen tree, which just happened to be in the wrong place at precisely the wrong time. It’s undoubtedly an insurance claim the car owner now has to deal with.
JEA and other major utilities are also working to restore power to thousands of homes for this exact reason. This tree fell on the power lines at Atlantic Boulevard. It happened close to University Blvd and resulted in all the westbound lanes being closes and temporary power outages for families nearby.
And take a look at what this tree did when it uprooted on the Southside off of Barnes Road. SnapJAX user Dre took this picture. Notice all the grass was also pulled up from the ground when the tree fell down.
There is undoubtedly going to be a lot of cleanup in this area tomorrow and through the weekend.
