The Food and Drug Administration has approved over-the-counter hearing aids to be sold at pharmacies and stores this month. Consumers will be able to buy hearing aids without needing an audiologist or doctor to provide a prescription. This could save people hundreds, even thousands, of dollars.

The new rule only applies to people who have mild to moderate hearing impairment. This could include people who have trouble hearing in groups, on the phone, need to turn up the TV or ask others to repeat themselves.
