JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – At least one person died in a crash around 9:15 Thursday night on Merrill Road at the intersection of Arlex Drive, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Several police units were on scene, which was near the Terry Parker Baptist Church.

An elderly male was riding a rascal scooter on the roadway, attempting to cross Merrill Road, according to JSO. The victim did not cross at a crosswalk. The driver of a Chevrolet Impala didn’t see the man crossing the roadway and hit him, according to police.
The driver, who was not injured, called police and remained at the scene, police said. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue responded and found the victim dead, according to police.
This marks the 158th traffic fatality in Duval County this year, JSO said.
