Jaguars superfan expects thousands will show up in Kansas City for playoff game

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Fans are gearing up for the next Jacksonville Jaguars playoff game in Kansas City.

One die-hard Jaguars fan who plans to make the trip says to expect thousands to wear teal and black at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

If you want to see a loyal Jaguars fan you don’t need to look further than David Mendenhall who said he’s about to hit the road to Kansas City.

“We love our team. We travel anywhere they are. Where they are, we are,” he said.

Mendenhall expects he will be one of the thousands of Jacksonville fans who plan on making the trip. He said he spent around $750 a piece on game tickets on Sunday night to be close to the field Saturday.

“As soon as the game was over last night we went on Ticketmaster, got our Airbnb. We’re ready to go,” he said.

If the Jaguars make it to the Super Bowl, Mendenhall said he will take out a loan or raise funds if he has to be

The divisional playoff game is raising the profile of the Jaguars again who have languished since their 2017 playoff run.

1010 XL Jaguars reporter Hays Carlyon said historically the team has gotten a bad rap in the playoffs as a small market team that doesn’t drive TV ratings, but he says that’s changed.

“I think it has shifted a little bit. I still think it’s there, there’s some of that, but it’s faded. A, because they’re fun to watch. They’ve become the most entertaining team in the league so I think they’re a fun story to pull for and again people are really excited about Trevor Lawrence,” Carlyon said.

One celebrity is giving the Jags some ambiguous love. Music star Darius Rucker tweeted this: “If your team is out who u got in the @NFL playoffs. Nobody wants to see @Trevorlawrencee and the @Jaguars!!! Let me hear who u like to win it all!!”

Mendenhall said the tweet implies no team wants to play the Jags, in fact, Rucker is a big Lawrence fan.

“People were confused about that. He’s on our side. He loves Trevor Lawrence and he knows that nobody wants to mess with the Jaguars right now,” he said.

News4JAX checked on some round-trip tickets from Jacksonville to Kansas City and right now they are going for $600 to $1,200 per ticket.

And Jaguars fans, if you plan to head to the game and want to meet up with other fans, there is a traveling Jaguars fan group on Facebook.
