Man found shot multiple times outside Blanding Boulevard apartment: JSO

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man in his 30s or 40s was found shot several times Friday afternoon outside of an apartment in the Duclay neighborhood on the city’s Westside, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

Police said a little before 1:30 p.m., officers were called to the Topaz Gardens Apartments on Blanding Boulevard near Duclay Road because neighbors heard shots fired.

After searching the complex, police said they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds near a stairwell. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue was called and said the man died on the scene.

No shooter information is available at the time.

JSO said it is conducting an investigation and intends to reach out to surrounding businesses for video surveillance. Police have also spoken to a neighbor who met the man just days before he was fatally shot.

The neighbor said the man just moved in 72 hours ago.

“He had just moved in. I was moving out of the way so Aaron’s furniture could help him get his stuff into his apartment yesterday,” the neighbor said.

The neighbor also said she saw a man she has never seen before hanging out with the victim last night and wondered why the man was walking back and forth between his car and the victim’s vehicle around 5:45 a.m.

Police are aware of the person the woman saw talking to the victim but that person has not been identified as the shooter.

If you have any information, call 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS to remain anonymous.
