Just after 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, NCSO deputies spotted the sinking vessel, prompting a search for any occupants. The boater was found attempting to swim to shore about half a mile away from the sunken boat.

According to NCSO, he had been in the water for an hour and a half but sustained no injuries.

The NCSO Marine Unit reminds boaters to pack life jackets and a whistle for emergencies, stressing their life-saving importance. It is also advised not to abandon the vessel, as staying with the boat increases the chances of being noticed and receiving assistance.

As the holiday weekend continues, boaters are urged to prioritize safety and remain cautious on the water.
