JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The FTC and FDA are sending cease and desist letters to sellers of edible Delta 8 products and telling them to stop marketing products that may entice young children.
To a child, some products probably won’t look any different from the actual products they imitate, but they contain THC.
Most THC edibles are illegal in the state of Florida, without a medical marijuana card but products with Delta 8, 9, and 10 can legally be purchased in the state.
Delta products are often referred to as “weed-lite” and the CDC and FDA both say they’ve been linked to thousands of accidental poisonings.
News4JAX found them for sale at a local smoke shop but they can also be found in convenience stores and CBD stores. Anyone 18 or older can buy them.
If you have Delta products in your home treat them like any other form of marijuana edible and keep them away from children, and also pets. Never store them near other food so there are no mix-ups.
Also, make sure to child-proof the cabinet or drawer you store them in.
The FTC recommends treating them like cleaning supplies or anything else you wouldn’t want your kids to get hold of.
And always close the packaging and put it away after each use. Never leave the bag sitting around.
Poison control centers say calls about accidental cannabis consumption have increased especially in states where it is sold legally.
If something does happen never assume the effects will just wear off. The CDC warns children can become very sick after consuming a marijuana edible.
