JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Dozens of new and expectant parents enjoyed the first-ever Community Baby Shower in Jacksonville Friday hosted by the Florida Department of Health in Duval County.
The Legends Center on Soutel Drive was packed with parents like Jaresia Cushion, who’s expecting her first child soon.
“I am 36 weeks tomorrow, so I’m expecting a baby boy, and I’m really excited about what the community is doing for new moms and current moms with giving away free things, and different opportunities,” Cushion said.
Some of the gift giveaways included pack-n-plays, car seats, strollers and pretty much anything you’d need to welcome your newest family addition.
The health department partnered with area providers like Wolfson Children’s Hospital, UF Health, the American Heart Association and Poison Control.
After such a successful turnout, organizers said it is very likely the community will see an encore event this time, next year.
The Health Department was sure to mention this event was also for new and expectant fathers, and it provided for families who have very young children — not only those preparing for babies.
