His story is personal for us here at News4JAX. Our morning show traffic anchor, Amanda DeVoe, is Gabriel’s cousin.

On Saturday, Gabriel’s loved ones teamed up with MAD DADS as they walked throughout the Carolina Village Apartments, hoping it will lead to new information about who murdered him.

Devoe’s mother, Rose, was front and center.

“Gabriel had only been home for a visit and we’re not certain what happened. And we’re waiting for answers,” Rose said.

On their journey, the group connected with neighbors.

Rose says Gabriel’s death was a tragedy, but his life was a miracle.

“At 10 weeks in utero, doctors could not detect a heartbeat, so they performed a procedure to terminate my pregnancy. And 2 weeks later and discovered that Gabriel was still there. And he was alive. He was alive and well. He was born at 8 months, healthy. So, Gabriel is our miracle baby,” Rose said.

As the group went door to door, they passed out fliers showing Gabriel Devoe’s face and information. But on the back is something really special — a heartfelt message from his mother, about answers in her son’s case.

Devoe’s loved ones reflect on his life, as they push for justice. He was one month away from his college graduation at Valdosta State.

He was a son, brother, and friend, whose absence leaves a hole in the hearts of many.

Rose has a message for everyone reading this story:

“I submit to you it could be any of our sons. And my prayer is that you never, ever feel the pain of losing your child. My son carried my husband’s name. That ceased on November 3rd. They took everything from us,” Rose said.

Remembering a beloved young man with a promising future — his life taken too soon.

A $15,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in Gabriel Devoe’s case. You’re asked to call JSO or CrimeStoppers.
