Search suspended for 46-year-old missing man near the St. Augustine Inlet

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – The search for a missing canoer near the St. Augustine Inlet has been suspended Sunday night, according to the U.S. Coast Guard 7th District PA Detachment Jacksonville.

The canoer’s name is Eiffel Gilyana. He is the Fitness and Wellness Director of The Jewish Community Alliance. The JCA released a statement on its Facebook page.

Officials said Gilyana was last seen wearing black pants with no life jacket or shirt.

The US Coast Guard led the search operations.

Rescue crews searched approximately 341 square miles and 90 asset hours.

The St. Johns Sheriff’s Office, St. Johns County Fire Rescue, St. Augustine Fire Department and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission are helping in the search and rescue efforts.
