CLAY COUNTY Fla. – A Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy was charged with domestic battery as the result of an incident at his home early Tuesday morning.
Deputy Matthew Powell got into a physical altercation with an unnamed woman, pushed her several times, and took a swing at her, leaving her with an arm injury, according to the sheriff’s office.

The woman left the house and called 911.
Deputies interviewed a third person who was in the house, and noted both Powell and the woman had “little to no fingernails.”
They determined Powell was the aggressor, and he was arrested.
The sheriff’s office released this statement:
Powell has been with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office for less than two years and has been administratively reassigned pending the outcome of the criminal case. The investigation of this incident is still ongoing.
