JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 43-year-old Jacksonville man has been charged with second-degree murder after a deadly shooting Thursday at a Westside mobile home park.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said that around 1 p.m. Thursday, Arther George, 65, was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound at the Three Seasons Mobile Home Village on Collins Road. Emergency crews responded, and George died at the scene.
After a brief investigation and witness descriptions, police gathered a suspect’s description and started searching for the shooter, who was taken into custody not far from the scene and interviewed.
JSO said after the interview, the suspected shooter, identified as Gregory J. Sangle Jr., was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and a third-degree felony for possession of a bulletproof vest while committing certain offenses.
Police were working to learn the relationship between George and Sangle and whether an argument led to the shooting, although the motive remained unclear.
Brenda Dees said George’s daughter tried to access the scene but was denied by authorities. Dees said her instinct was to comfort the woman as she cried.
“To watch them two girls jump out of that truck, especially the daughter, was horrible. And she couldn’t get over there. I don’t know if anybody could stop me if it had been my dad, but they did the right thing because I want to find out who did it,” she said.
