JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville man charged with second-degree murder after a deadly shooting at a Westside mobile home park told police he was acting in self-defense when he shot 65-year-old Arther George, according to an arrest report obtained by News4JAX.

The report said Gregory Sangle, Jr., 43, told the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office that George hit him with a board, causing him to fire a single shot.

George was found suffering from a gunshot wound on the wheelchair ramp to his house at the Three Seasons Mobile Home Village on Collins Road. The report said he was also found with his cell phone under his right hand.

A 2-by-8-inch board was found on the ramp as well.

Detectives determined George could not have swung the board meaningfully with his cell phone in his dominant hand.

Sangle was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and a third-degree felony for possession of a bulletproof vest while committing certain offenses. He is held without bond.
