FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – A 64-year-old Flagler County man was arrested on New Year’s Day after being accused of assaulting a healthcare worker and assaulting a girl in a Walmart, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO). Deputies believe there could be more victims.
Robert Goldstein is charged with felony battery on a health service provider, felony child abuse without great bodily harm and simple battery.
Once Goldstein was booked, his mugshot was run through facial recognition software to reveal that he was also wanted for assaulting an 11-year-old girl in a Walmart.
David K. Williams, Chief of the Investigative Services Division, said Goldstein stroked the top of the girl’s head and ran his hands down her shoulders.
Deputies said they were glad the girl’s parents came forward and told them about the incident instead of remaining quiet.
“This stuff happens more often than is reported,” Williams said.
Anna Walker and Shalonda Woods are both mothers who found out about what Goldstein did from a post on the sheriff’s office’s Facebook page and said it was shocking.
“Terror. Absolute terror,” Walker said.
Goldstein’s arrest followed another man in Lee County being arrested for attempted kidnapping inside a Walmart.
It was caught on camera and according to deputies, Pablo Hernandez tried to grab a 4-year-old by the hand and walk away with him — but a family member pulled the child back.
Given that the events happened within a week of each other, Walker said she’d rather keep her child at home and if he’s with her, she tries to keep him close by in the store.
Williams said Goldstein had no prior criminal history and wasn’t on the sex offenders registry, but because of his recent actions, they’re wondering if he could have more victims.
“We want anyone in the community who recognizes him to come forward if they’ve had any dealings with him in the past. Similar situations or anything like that,” Williams said.
Officials said if more victims come forward, Goldstein could be held responsible for all he’s done.
Williams also said when in public, it’s best to make sure your children are near you, be aware of your surroundings, and stay vigilant.
