Two women in critical condition after being struck by a car in St. Augustine

Two arrests were made

ST. AUGUSTINE – Two women were struck by a car near the Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine on Sunday around 2 a.m. and they are in critical condition, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.

Witnesses observed the driver, a 21-year-old woman, traveling north on Avenida Menendez at a high speed and hit two women on the sidewalk.

The vehicle continued to travel into a parking lot, striking a parking sign and pay-to-park kiosk before stopping.

The SJSO initiated an investigation and two arrests were made.

The driver was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, a DUI crash involving serious bodily injury, and a DUI crash involving property damage.

A 22-year-old man was in the passenger seat and he was arrested and charged with resisting an officer and attempting to cause a disturbance while first responders were at the scene.
