Flagler County Deputy dies after battle with cancer

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – The Flagler County Sheriff’s office announce that Deputy Michael Moniz, 69, died after a battle against cancer.

Deputy Moniz began his career with the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office in 2010 as a part-time patrol deputy and eventually transferred to the Civil Process Unit, where he served with distinction until his passing.

Prior to joining FCSO, he served 36 years with the Fort Lauderdale Police Department and was a United States Air Force veteran.

“Deputy Moniz served our community for over a decade and was a valued member of the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office family. Our hearts go out to Michael’s family and friends, as well as the many friends and colleagues he made during his time at the Sheriff’s Office. We will miss him greatly. I ask the community to join me in keeping his family and his brothers and sisters at FCSO in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” said Sheriff Rick Staly.

The service to celebrate his life and dedication to the community will be announced at a later date.
