JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Isolated strong-to-severe storms will bring the threat of heavy downpours, tornadoes and small hail Tuesday with the worst of the weather expected between noon and 7 p.m.
Local officials are preparing for potential power outages, downed trees and localized flooding from the storms.
Winds are expected to hit speeds similar to a tropical storm, and everyone is encouraged to remove any loose objects outdoors, like garbage cans or patio furniture, so they don’t fly away.
Sustained winds could reach between 20-35 mph with 40-50 mph gusts.

Those strong winds can also impact bridges.
Emergency management officials are warning that high winds can be a hazard for tall vehicles and could damage vulnerable structures and lead to isolated power outages.
JEA crews are bracing for severe weather.
“We prepare our facilities, systems and our teams for severe weather year-round,” a JEA spokesperson said. “In anticipation of Tuesday’s storms, JEA electric crews are ensuring teams are ready and trucks are fully stocked to prepare. Water crews are securing active project sites and are prepared for any necessary response efforts.”
Gov. Ron DeSantis also activated the Florida State Guard to respond to “potential severe weather that is anticipated across the state,” according to a memo from the governor’s office.
