77-year-old woman killed in crash on US 1 in St. Johns County

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A 77-year-old woman from San Mateo died Friday night after a van crashed into her sedan while driving on U.S. 1 in St. Johns County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the woman was traveling eastbound across U.S. 1, just north of Lewis Point Road, from a private driveway. As she was crossing the highway, a 41-year-old woman driving a van struck her sedan directly on the driver’s side.

St. Johns County Fire/Rescue responded to the scene due to entrapment and life-threatening injuries, officials said.

FHP said the 77-year-old woman was transported to a hospital where she later died. The 41-year-old driver suffered minor injuries.

Both drivers involved were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident, according to the FHP report.
