MIDDLEBURG, Fla. – Clay County Animal Services had 70 dogs and cats turned over to them on Tuesday after the owner said they could no longer care for the animals.
The owner is not facing charges.
The animals were removed from the Middleburg home and are being treated at the Clay County fairgrounds. The dogs will stay at the fairgrounds, and the cats will be taken to the animal shelter.

Animal Control officials are deciding what the next step for these animals will be after a check-up. There are dogs of all sizes and ages, some are puppies just a few weeks old. The older ones appear frightened but also appear to be in good health.
Rebecca Davenport drove by, saw what was happening, and said, “I think that’s too many to have unless you can care for them. I guess this person probably loved dogs.”
Rescuers are thankful the animals are coming out alive and are in good health.
We will keep you posted if there is news about adoptions of these animals. But, that may take several days to decide.
The Clay County Animal Services is accepting donations for items such as slip leads, puppy pads and dog food.
