ORANGE PARK, Fla. – An elderly horse named “Champ” was rescued by the Orange Park Fire Department and St. Johns County Fire Rescue after a health incident.

The Orange Park and St. Johns County crews gave the horse oxygen and used a winch to help the horse get back into the trailer.
The OPFD made the following post on their Facebook page:
The horse was lifted but was still too weak to stand, we then loaded her into her trailer strapped safely so she wouldn’t get hurt further. Her owner took her directly to his stable where the vet was standing by. I am happy to report that “Champ” is doing well, is up and walking and eating. Her vital signs are all great and she is being treated for minor abrasions and cuts. Great work by Orange Park Fire Department and St. Johns County Fire Rescue! Witnessing the firefighters’ compassion & determination as they worked together was nothing short of inspiring. Our firefighters go above and beyond to keep our community safe, even when faced with unique challenges! Good luck to Champ, and hope for a full recovery!
