JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 66-year-old Duval County inmate died at a local hospital Wednesday, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Police said Leroy Beckett, 66, was transported to a hospital Friday due to prior “multiple ongoing medical issues.” Beckett died under the hospital’s care.

According to JSO, Beckett was originally arrested in July 2023 and accused of two counts of sale of cocaine.
Once the Medical Examiner’s Office determines the manner of death, it will follow an autopsy of the inmate, according to police.
Beckett is the third inmate to die in the custody of Duval County this year. His death is the eighth since contractor NaphCare took over healthcare services at the jail on Sept. 1.
